Phoebe and her Palooza!

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Phoebe’s Pancake Palooza was held August 7th at

Kenilworth Presbyterian Church.

It was an overwhelming success!  Thanks to our amazing community, all our volunteers, and incredibly generous sponsors…

Phoebe Rose Miller is a 4 year old Asheville resident that is facing brain surgery.  After months of severe headaches, she was diagnosed (Dec. 2009) with a very rare congenital malformation in her brain called a Chiari I Malformation (Kee-ah-ree).  Her neurosurgeon is Dr. Ben Carson at Johns Hopkins Medical Institution.  After experiencing a steady progression of symptoms related to the Chiari, Dr. Carson decided to schedule a Cervicomedullary Decompression surgery for August 17, 2010.

Phoebe’s family and friends are organizing this fundraising event because $10,000 dollars must be sent to Johns Hopkins before Phoebe arrives for surgery.  Phoebe is covered by Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance.  Her daddy works 2 jobs to provide this insurance, but the cost after insurance is billed could total up to $50,000 more. This does not including the expense of the Miller family being in Baltimore for the duration of surgery and recovery. If surgery is delayed for too long, the resulting neurological damage would be irreversible.

Thank you to everyone who has chosen to help!! Phoebe’s Pancake Palooza was a HUGE success!  You all have helped us raise even more than the initial $10,000 to get Phoebe to Hopkins. We will be leaving Friday for Baltimore and Phoebe’s surgery will be Tues. Aug. 17th.  Thanks to you, our baby girl will get the surgery she needs!  Follow Phoebe’s journey at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/phoebemiller.

The donation buttons will remain operable to help collect funds for
Phoebe's post-surgery hospital stay!
